Overview

When it was constructed in 1929, the R.J. Reynolds Building in downtown Winston-Salem won a national architecture award. Today, it’s widely credited as the inspiration for the Empire State Building. The building has housed offices, retail destinations, residences, and corporate headquarters, but today, it’s home to the Kimpton Cardinal Hotel – and, with Art Deco décor and a lavish living room lobby, the Cardinal makes the most of its historic location. Downstairs, check out the on-site recreation center that features anything from bowling alleys to basketball. Then, to unwind, enjoy cocktails and conversation at the Cardinal’s nightly hosted social hour.
